OperaCréole and Opera Lafayette Release “Morgiane” Album, Conducted by Patrick Quigley

OperaCréole Ensemble and Opera Lafayette Orchestra have released their full recording of Edmond Dédé’s opera Morgiane, Ou, Le Sultan D’Ispahan, conducted by Patrick Dupre Quigley. The album features a live recording of Dédé’s “lost” opera, believed by many to be the oldest known opera written by a Black composer. Quigley’s conducting of the opera was covered by outlets such as The New Yorker and OperaWire, and was also recently featured in a documentary which premiered in October of last year.
