Sara Couden Praised For Her “Astonishing” Voice in ‘Handmaid’s Tale’

 
 

SF Opera recently put on a production of The Handmaid's Tale, an opera written by by Danish composer Poul Ruders and English librettist Paul Bentley and based on Margaret Atwood’s classic 1985 science fiction novel. The performance featured contralto Sara Couden, whose “astonishing contralto voice was a highlight” according to a new review from San Francisco music blog Civic Center.
